A choice of photographs will be available for this intensive portrait drawing and painting workshop, offering the opportunity to explore different skin tones. The full-day, workshop is hosted by award-winning South Australian artist, Trevor Newman and will explore the fundamentals of drawing the portrait as well as how to mix skin tones when painting in acrylics or oils.
You will learn all you need to know about drawing and portrait painting, in your choice of oils or acrylics, as well as colour-mixing, canvas preparation, and brushwork techniques.
Images will be provided on the day. Please refer to the below materials list for what you need to bring.
Free tea or coffee on arrival and lunch is available for purchase from our licensed cafe.

*Desktop easels are available for use. If you prefer a free-standing easel, please bring it along.
*Oil or acrylic paints as follows: Cadmium yellow light; Alizarin crimson red; Ultramarine blue; Titanium white; Dioxazine purple (acrylic painters only)
*General painting medium to suit
*Odourless solvent (oil painters only)
*Rags (or we have paper towels available)
*Drawing board to suit paper
*Brushes, large to small--your preference of chisel or round
*Palette knife, crank handle
*Charcoal pencil and soft willow charcoal (thin sticks)
*Eraser, soft and hard
*A3 drawing paper, sheets or pad
*Oil or acrylic painting paper; 3-4 sheets for colour-mixing purposes
*A3 size canvas for final painting, or suitable surface for chosen medium
Terms and conditions: Full payment at time of booking is essential. Fees are non refundable unless classes are cancelled by the tutor for reasons of minimum numbers not being met, or other reason provided. Check costs at time of booking as they are subject to change without notice. Materials are not included unless stated
Where can I park?
Atelier Crafers is on Cox Place, Crafers – directly behind the BP service station on Main Street.
Parking is available at the tennis courts on Sharrod Court at the rear of Atelier Crafers and on the kerb opposite Atelier Crafers. We ask that you do not park in the car parks designated as private or in other people’s driveways.
An accessible parking space is available at the front of Atelier Crafers for those who have a disabled parking permit.
Bus routes run up the freeway regularly to the Crafers park n ride and the Main Street of Crafers.
Where can I buy coffee and food?
We have a full café that will be available before, during and after your workshop.
