$160 for a full-day, from design to print!

For continuing students and complete beginners, welcome to my linocut printmaking workshop. I am delighted that you have come to share my joy in printmaking. My aim is to teach you the techniques of lino printmaking so that when you leave the workshop you are confident to carry on printmaking at home.

Please have some ideas in mind that you would like to turn in to a print, but try to keep it simple. You are welcome to bring photo references or sketches or anything else for inspiration.

Please wear old clothes because we definitely will get inky, if we don’t then we aren’t having enough fun!

If you don’t like getting inky hands then please wear some vinyl gloves.

Below is a list of materials to bring on the day:

*Silk cut lino 10x15 cm 2 pieces just in case things go wrong with the first and you can practice at home later if not used in the workshop. You can find some here https://www.arttoart.net/silk-cut-lino
(Please no 'easy carve' blocks-- I find that they stretch when transferring the image to paper. )
*Lino cut tools bring your own, if you have some. I personally use Pfiel or Flexcut. I have 3 that I use all the time. A tiny 0.5 U gouge for fine detail a 3mm and a wider u gouge tool for clearing larger areas. V shaped gouges are great for straight lines also.
Art to art have a small selection. Carbatec has a wide selection and you can buy tools in sets or individually.
(When I first started I bought a big expensive set and realised that I only really used 3.)
*A Baren you can buy these cheaply https://www.arttoart.net/holbien-bamboo-baren-10cm this one is cheap and gives great results. We will use this to apply pressure to transfer the image to paper.
*Non slip mat or cutting mat to k.eep the lino in place which helps to reduce the amount of times you cut yourself
*An old metal spoon for applying pressure to smaller areas
*Hard pencil
*Soft pencil
*Sharpie or other brand of fine tipped permanent marker
*Fine cartridge paper or rice paper sheets A4 or A3 size is good, needs to be a light weight paper.
*Tracing paper or carbon paper for tracing 1 sheet
*Inks and clean up solutions, rollers and ink plates provided by me (Emma) on the day.
