$395 for a four week course (includes $95 worth of tools for you to take home) starting Friday, October 16th to the 13th November; 10am-1pm. Lunch and beverages are available to order from our cafe.
The four sessions will enable you to work through the different processes needed to complete your project by the end of the course, providing you with the skills and techniques needed to produce and complete marquetry pieces from start to finish.
This would include making your background veneer; transferring your image; the cutting and taping techniques of marquetry; gluing the piece to board; sanding; and applying a finish. All the materials for this will be provided and are included in the course fee. The first project will be a simple leaf or a similar image.
The course includes starting a second more personalised project with an image of your choice, to be completed at home. You will learn how to break down a picture into components for marquetry and will be introduced to slightly more advanced techniques such as ‘sand shading’.
As glue and finishes need time to dry, the second project can be underway during this time.
The course will give you the skills, and the requisite tools, to continue to develop the techniques at home. For any woodworkers, marquetry is something that can be applied to enhance any piece of furniture. For the artists, marquetry can be beautiful on its own as a wall hanging or something similar.
Provided Tools:
1 x Quality Swann Morton scalpel handle. (Surgical grade)
10 x spare Swann Morton scalpel blades.
1 x A3 quality self-healing cutting mat.
A selection of wood veneers to play with at home.
Stationery requirements such as, pencil, transfer paper, tracing paper and tapes.
