Dianne Averis - Encore

A friend started me on this journey into the world of porcelain when she gave me pieces of a beautiful display plate, a family heirloom stored in a bottom drawer but broken decades ago. She seemed to think I could ‘do something with it’! After a lot of trial and error I was able to return to her a pair of earrings and a pendant, and ‘Encore’ came into being. I take a photograph of each plate and backstamp, researching details relating to the origin of the piece. So fascinating! I experimented with various edgings, but now prefer just to seal each side upon completion of the piece, feeling that it is more authentic to the original to leave it as natural as possible. It has become a passion to attempt to upcycle these cracked/chipped/discarded pieces.
