Collection: Roderick Glen

Born and educated in Adelaide’s leafy suburbs in South Australia, Roderick graduated with an Associate Diploma

in Architectural Drafting from TAFE SA in 1988 and worked with several prominent Architectural practices

before returning to full-time study in 1991, graduating with a Bachelor of Design in Human Environments from the

University of South Australia in 1993.

Since childhood Roderick had shown a unique talent for architectural rendering. He was ambitious and highly driven,

eventually to receive formal training in Hong Kong which proved a ‘watershed’ in his future career.

Returning to Adelaide in 1994, he opened the studio of ‘Roderick Design and Illustration’, and enjoyed a stellar career

freelancing in 3D Illustration for the next quarter of a century, at the very dawn of a digital era which was to eventually

precipitate his semi-retirement in 2020.

A difficult five year hiatus ensued as he sadly bid ‘adieu’ to those halcyon days and looked to reinvent himself, branching out

into modelling, acting, painting, and eventually sculpture, which now forms the staple of his current body of works.

Life observed is his basis for inspiration, allowing ideas to germinate rather than attempting

to force the process as he transitions from studying built form to human form, due to it’s inherent emotional content.

Artists such as Ivor Hele and Hans Heysen provide ongoing inspiration due to their mastery in representing shapes in sunlight.

Roderick lives and works from of his home studio in Wattle Park South Australia to the present day.
