Collection: Rare Hare Designs
Rare Hare Designs embraces ethical, sustainable design and manufacturing; consistently striving for zero waste. Working from her studio in the picturesque Adelaide Hills, Rachel Hare designs and creates jewellery and small homewares from materials originally destined for landfill.
Jewellery pieces are predominantly made from discontinued laminate and flooring samples both vintage and modern. Quirkier materials however are quite often incorporated into a collection, and the more random and obscure; the better! E-waste, piano parts, copper garden pipe, vintage anodised saucepan lids, vintage plastic extrusion cable, random op shop finds. Materials are worked and manipulated in such a way that quite often their original form and purpose is hard to determine.
Collections are therefore small and quite often limited edition(s) due to the material(s) involved. Each piece of work is designed and made by hand using traditional jewellers techniques such as hand sawing, hand filing, hand drilling. It can be a time consuming process but ensures a quality and uniqueness that is often hard to find. Each item of jewellery made by Rare Hare Designs is bespoke, one of a kind, and quite often almost impossible to duplicate.
The epitome of slow fashion.
