Ulysses
Ulysses is a beautifully expressive original sculpture with a strong sense of character and story. Created in mixed media on a welded frame, the figure is set into natural stone on a Caesarstone base, giving the work both stability and presence.
The textured green and dark surface gives the piece an aged, weathered quality, reminiscent of patinated metal, while the seated pose feels reflective and deeply human. Having just finished reading James Joyce's heroic novel, this piece reflects the absolute cacophony of emerging thoughts and conclusions from the most difficult book I have ever read. My mind is still partially immersed in it long after re-possession by the library. Sincere thanks to my long suffering son-in-law who posed for me, shivering on a cold winter's afternoon last year.
