Flower Buds
River Red Gum (Eucalyptus camaldulensis)
This piece was created to show flower buds and their long stems at their dominant best. After drawing the details, it was extensively cut out, sculptured and carved. After sanding, all the buds were stained red. Fine texturing provided the contrast that highlighted the strength and length of each stem. Finally, to scaffold and to emphasize the piece itself, a base was drawn, cut, sculptured and stained a contrasting black colour.
